Progress Playbook And NYC Host Summit For Social Entrepreneurs From Hollis To Harlem

On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Progress Playbook in partnership with New York City Office of Neighborhood Safety (NYC ONS) will present its inaugural Renaissance Summit.

A bold, new conference to combat crime and make neighborhoods safer and more prosperous by making an investment in communities by empowering its people. The immersive full day event will take place 11 AM to 5 PM, at BKLYN Commons, 495 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn, NY and will bring together social entrepreneurs, visionaries, leaders, and creatives who are focused on reimaging and transforming New York City through the power of entrepreneurship and community.

The Renaissance Summit will include a Small Business Marketplace, providing recent graduates and alumni from New York City Office of Neighborhood Safety Renaissance Project an opportunity to showcase and for some demonstrate the various enterprises they’ve created as part of their entrepreneurial journey in making their communities and neighborhoods safe. The dynamic speaker’s series will provide access to a variety of entrepreneurs who are operating in the intersection between business and neighborhood development including a keynote address from Coss Marte, founder of Con Body. 

As part of its Salon Series, a host of astonishing speakers will share inspirational stories highlighting their wins, challenges, and gains. Guest speakers will include Lacie Chisolm, Founder of Founder/CEO, Fit4Dance; Jason Gibson, Founder/President Hood by Code; Amaurys Grullon, Founder, Bronx Native; Lauren Riley & Merlyn Oliver, Co-Founders of Brooklyn Mavin; and Geneva L. White, Co-Founder/Executive Director, Scope Of Work (SOW). 


In addition to live music, tasty food catered by some of Brooklyn’s premiere food trucks, The forum will include plenty of opportunities to network, mix, mingle and build impactful alliances with likeminded individuals seeking to transform communities. 

Created for entrepreneurs who are passionate about improving their local community, New York City Office of Neighborhood Safety (NYC ONS) Renaissance Project is a 12-week intensive incubator that provides New York City residents who reside in a New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)/ONS site the tools they need to create safer, healthier, and more prosperous environments. Over the course of the program, participants are matched with a mentor and given access to industry professionals in providing guidance in helping them to develop a social impact business model.   

Created by Progress Playbook in partnership with NYC ONS, the program recruits mission-driven entrepreneurs, and leaders that seek an opportunity to start or grow businesses that support their communities. Rooted in the belief that residents are closest to the issues and thus are best equipped to identify meaningful solutions, the program is designed to build residents’ capacity to develop entrepreneurial solutions for community priorities in five key areas. Those areas are – youth development; health & wellness; physical space; economic stability; and safety/justice.
