Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler’s reunion is rumored to be a vampire period piece. Coogler and Jordan have been a dynamic director-actor combo since they first worked together on the stirring 2013 drama Fruitvale Station. Since then, the two have gone on to work on multiple projects together, including Black Panther and Creed.
As reported by Jeff Sneider (via Fangoria), Coogler and Jordan’s next project together will reportedly be a vampire film. According to the source, the film is “a vampire movie of some sort.” Further details as to the plot of this film have not yet been revealed. According to Deadline, the film is currently in a bidding war between Sony, Warner Bros., and Universal.
Why Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler’s Film Could Be Their Most Interesting Yet
Previously, it was also reported that Coogler and Jordan’s film would be a “genre” film. Sources also pointed to the film having a period piece element, though did not specify in what time period the film is set. The added information of the film being a vampire movie could mean a Victorian setting, or a number of other gothic vampire eras. Alternatively, the film could genre-bend by setting its vampiric plot in the context of some iconic 20th century era such as the 1920s.
Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler Collaborations
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
This film will mark the fifth collaboration between Jordan and Coogler, whose previous work together includes Fruitvale Station, Black Panther, Creed, and most recently Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. After his breakout independent film, Coogler transitioned his work with Jordan to be more focused on blockbuster filmmaking, especially with his dive into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). While the exact details of the production are unclear, including the results of the bidding war, it seems that their next film together will stray away from their more conventional Hollywood fare.
Michael B. Jordan’s Best Movies Ranked
Michael B. Jordan has been a part of two franchises that have had critical and commercial success and in between, he’s had fantastic smaller roles.
This film could be an interesting combination of Coogler’s filmmaking talents. While Fruitvale Station is nothing like a vampire period piece, it is a unique independent film that shows Coogler’s understanding of a non-traditional form. The director could combine these indie roots with his growing propensity for strong genre stories (e.g. the superhero genre and the sports film), and Jordan’s growing star power, to make a film that could be the pair’s most interesting yet.
