The True Detective: Night Country finale trailer teases the conclusion to this season’s mystery. With Issa López taking over as showrunner for Nic Pizzolatto, the fourth season of HBO’s acclaimed anthology show follows the investigation into eight men who suddenly disappeared from the Tsalal Research Station during the first day of Alaska’s long winter night, which is connected to the unsolved murder of Annie Kowtok from six years ago. The True Detective: Night Country episode 4 ending saw Danvers have an unexpected encounter with Otis Heiss, while Navarro sees her sister’s screaming ghost, which causes her eardrums to bleed.

After episode 5 aired early on Friday due to the Super Bowl, Max released the trailer for the True Detective season 4 finale. Watch it below:

The trailer picks up with Officer Peter Prior cleaning up after killing his father, Captain Hank Prior, while Danvers and Navarro head out to the ice caves to find where Annie was killed, with the former falling beneath the ice.

What To Expect From The True Detective Season 4 Finale

Danvers underneath the ice in True Detective: Night Country finale

The penultimate episode made it crystal clear that Silver Sky is the real villain of True Detective: Night Country. The powerful company is responsible for the mine that has been contaminating the water in Ennis and causing stillbirths. The company is also connected to the Tsalal research station, which has been covering up their crimes by forging fake pollution numbers. Annie K., a climate activist, likely uncovered some extent of these crimes, and Silver Sky had her killed before she could expose them.

Silver Sky also corrupted the Alaska Police Force, with Captain Hank Prior being the biggest culprit who helped cover up their crimes, which is largely why Peter kills his father during the True Detective: Night Country episode 5 ending. In the season finale, Peter will clean up after the killing, while Danvers and Navarro attempt to expose Silver Sky. Since Tsalal was also attempting to uncover the origin of life by sequencing an extinct organism’s DNA, fake pollution numbers may just be the tip of the iceberg, as Navarro and Danvers discover whatever secrets are buried beneath the eternal ice.

The

True Detective: Night Country
